| A Korean TV drama and an entertainment program have been nominated for the 2011 International Emmy Awards, the broadcaster KBS said on Monday.
Actor Jang Hyuk in the KBS drama “The Slave Hunters” was nominated for best actor and KBS entertainment program “The Master Show” was nominated for the non-scripted entertainment category.
The Korean historical drama series “The Slave Hunters,” also known as “Chuno” in Korea, depicts lives of Korean people in the 17th-century Joseon era. The 24-episode series won the best mini series drama and the best actor award in the 2010 Seoul Drama Awards, the best drama series in 2010 Asian TV Awards and was nominated for the 2011 Monte Carlo TV Festival.
The Korean drama will compete against Brazil’s “Songs of Betrayal,” the U.K.’s “Accused” and Sweden’s “Millenium.”
The KBS entertainment show, “The Master Show,” is led by comedian Kim Byeong-man who pushes the limits of physical and mental power. It will compete against Mexico’s “Mas alla de lo imposible,” Spain’s “The Anthill” and the U.K.’s “The World’s Strictest Parents.”
A total of 40 nominees from 20 countries were selected by more than 800 juries from 67 countries.
The 40 nominees, including the two Korean shows, will compete in 10 categories for International Emmys, which recognizes international TV programs produced outside the U.S.
The contenders for best drama series include Britain’s “Sherlock,” Brazil’s “Under the Law,” France’s “Engrenages (Spiral),” and Japan’s “Sakanoue no Kumo” (Cloud Above the Slope).
The winners will be announced Nov. 21 at a ceremony at the Hilton New York Hotel.
